The 2013 HRW wheat harvest has now moved into southern Oklahoma along the Texas/Oklahoma border.  Wheat now being cut in those border areas was damaged by freeze in late March.  Test weight in this region is reportedly 58 lbs./bushel (76.3 kg/hl) and yields of 10 bushel/acre to 20 bushels/acre.  Areas in the eastern portions of north Texas are reporting test weights above 60 lbs./ bushel (78.9 kg/hl) with yields of 40 bushels per acre.  All areas are reporting very good protein.  These are very early reports out of this area and will likely change over the next couple of weeks.  Approximately 14% of the Texas crop has now been cut.

Most areas in central Texas did some test cutting early in the week prior to being shutdown because of rain and have not been able to get back into muddy fields.  The south coastal crop areas of south Texas are 75% complete with relatively low yields, but very good protein (13%).

On the Oklahoma side of the border test weights are ranging from 58 lbs/bushel to 62 lbs./bushel (76.3 kg/hl to 81.5 kg/hl) with approximately 150,000 bushels being harvested to date  (< 1% of the Oklahoma crop).  Early yield reports are ranging from 15 bushels/acre to 25 bushels/acre, but mostly 20-25 bushels.
