HRW Harvest Report - September 3, 2010
The Montana 2010 HRW harvest is now 95% complete with individual locations reporting; Billings (south central), (Peavey) HRW: complete. Pompey’s Pillar (south central) (United Harvest) HRW: complete. Glendive (east central) (CHS-Farmers) HRW complete. Kasa Point/Wolf Point (northeast) (Columbia Grain) HRW: complete. Havre (north central), (ADM-CHS) HRW: 90% complete. Shelby (north central) (CHS) HRW: 90% complete, will wrap up harvest in the next 4 days if weather permits. Great Falls (north central) (Columbia Grain) HRW 85% complete, should be done with harvest over the next week if weather holds, good yields, average protein.
Gulf Tributary grainsheds (locations) testing has been completed with a full published report to be issued within the next 30 days. Over 80% of the samples were graded #1 HRW, however, one-third of those samples were below 11.5% wheat protein. Consequently, the resulting flour protein is significantly below the 5 year average at 10.2%. All absorption test values are also of a concern (related to lower protein); however, not all protein related tests are showing lower values. This would indicate the protein present has quality i.e. (mix tolerance, sedimentation, etc.), just a dilution of total protein as indicated through very good test weight (61.0 lbs/bu.) and large kernels (2.61 mm).
